Karni Mata was a Hindu sage and is worshipped as an incarnation of the goddess Durga. Her most famous temple is Deshnoke, famous for its rats which are treated as sacred and are protected. Here is the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karni_Mata.
As a rat lover and also protector, I am starting the Karni Mata Rat Rescue. All of our animal companions deserve safe, loving, forever homes. Some of my rats have been from pet stores, or people who could no longer care for them, one was even supposed to be snake food but thank goodness the snake rejected him. Some have come by way of other rat caretakers, originally at an SPCA or similar place. We are also home to the Riverbird Woman Sanctuary, with usually older rats that are not up for adoption and have found their forever home here.
Thanks to all of you who have helped so far, with support, supplies, and funds. We have our EIN and our next step is filing our Articles of Incorporation to be a registered non-profit in the state of Pennsylvania.
We are hoping to establish 501(c)(3) designation in the future. Any help with providing supplies would be appreciated. Specific rescue email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
URGENT APPEAL: We are greatly in need of donations to build up our vet fund. It does not take long for it to be depleted. Thank you!
If you desire to adopt rats from us through Petfinder, please email for an adoption application.
